Program Description

This course provides an in-depth exploration of firewater pumping and hydrant systems, focusing on the design, components, and calculation methods essential for effective fire protection. Beginning with the fundamentals of fire pump rooms and their components, the course covers the requirements and classifications of fire pumps according to NBA and NFPA standards. Students will learn to calculate pump and sump capacities, addressing the needs for static water tanks and fire water sumps. The course also delves into the history, advantages, limitations, and design of fire hydrant systems, both internal and external. By the end of the course, students will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to design and implement comprehensive firewater pumping and hydrant systems.

Course Objectives

  • Understand Fire Pump Room Components: Learn the requirements and classifications of fire pump rooms and components according to NBA and NFPA standards.
  • Calculate Pump and Sump Capacities: Master the methods for calculating pump capacity and fire water sump requirements, including understanding static water tanks and sump classifications.
  • Explore Hydrant Systems: Gain insight into the history, advantages, and limitations of fire hydrant systems, including understanding key terminologies and components.
  • Design Hydrant Systems: Acquire the skills to design both internal and external fire hydrant systems, ensuring comprehensive fire protection coverage.
