Dr. M. Thenmozhi is a Professor of Finance in the Department of Management Studies of the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai with more than 31 years of academic experience. She was Director of the National Institute of Securities Markets, Mumbai for two years. Prior to joining llT Madras, she had worked as a Faculty in the Management Division of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management at Anna University, Chennai.
She has been ranked among the top 100 Women in Finance in India in 2019 and 2020 by AIWMA. She is an Executive Endeavour Fellow (2007) of the Australian Government and a recipient of Fulbright-Nehru Visiting Lecturer Fellowship (2011) and European Union Erasmus Mundus Scholarship (2009).
She is a National Award Winner (2003) for developing the best manufacturing policy draft for India. She received the Award from the former Prime Minister Shri. Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the National Manufacturing Sector Policy Competition organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and We Think for India (WTI) Forum. She is a recipient of the EXIM Bank Chair Professorship (2016) in Finance offered by Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.
She has international teaching / research experience in Queensland University of Technology (2007), Australia, La Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) (2009), Spain, University of Passau (2010), Germany, San Diego State University (2011), USA and Lagos Business School (2016), Nigeria.
She has guided 2 post-doctoral fellows, 17 Ph. D. and 9 M. S. scholars and has pub- lished many papers in International and National journals and has more than 150 International and National Conference papers. She specialises in applied and policy implications-based research in the domain of corporate finance, market micro- structure and financial time series modelling. She has developed hybrid Al and Sup- port Vector Machine based forecasting models for stock market trading and investing and models to test information transmission between markets. She has worked in the areas of determinants of ETFs performance, commodity market price discovery, impact of family and promoter driven firm’s governance, country level determinants of FDI and Cross border acquisitions. She has won several best re- search paper awards for her research work both at the national and international level.
She has executed sponsored projects for CTS, TCS, National Stock Exchange, Multi-Commodity Exchange of India (MCX), HUDCO, lCAl and AICTE. She is known for her customised skill based executive development programmes for vari- ous companies such as L&T (PT&D), Flsmidth, GMMCO, Wipro, CTS, NTECL, CPCL and NLC. She has also developed e-learning modules in WebCT and Authorware Professional for the NPTEL project.
